The Xlacah Cenote is one of the most popular and closest in Mérida. It is said that the first settlers of Dzibilchaltún, Yucatán, settled around the cenote and for this reason it was named Xlacah, which in Mayan means “old town”. To get there you have to take the Mérida-Progreso highway in the Dzibilchaltun archeology zone.
This cenote is of the open type and transparent water. It is very large and is around 100 m long. Its depth on one of its banks is one meter and there is a small platform where the water is level, so access is easy. This is where I recommend you swim with the children, always wearing a vest and water shoes.
As you advance there are inclined slopes making it deeper and deeper as it is said to be approximately 45 meters long. It is surrounded by beautiful water lilies, so we recommend that you only stay on the shores for your safety.
In its facilities there are restrooms and parking, there are no shops but you can bring your food. Around it you can sit, since there is enough space in the open air, and have a picnic to enjoy the heat.
Your opinion is very important to us, if you have visited the Cenote Xlacah leave us your recommendations in the comments. If you want to know more places for children, visit the sections on Parks or Restaurants for Children in Mérida and share KIDSin on your social networks.
